You're Hystery
I made myself a (very easy) task list today. Blogging was one of the four things on it. I feel like I might still be a little fuzzy...I can't even think of a good title. I have plenty of time to blog now, so get ready for all of the disjointed fuzziness.
Monday-Wednesday, December 2-4: Taught, said goodbyes, dusted my classroom (I bet you can't even tell), rowed, final house and school preparations. I sat at my counter because my desk was ready to go, I wasn't fully present anywhere. It felt good to walk out the door on Wednesday, no pomp and circumstance, but ready to get the show on the road.
Thursday, December 5: I had to report to Mercy West Hospital at 10:00, surgery was at 11:30. I could drink clear liquid and was assigned to drink gatorade 2-3 hours before surgery (ERAs protocol-I'm not sold.). We got Nolan up and on the bus, and then oddly went back to bed for an hour. I've been eerily calm for both surgeries, then I showered and we were off. Check in was slick. In May pre-op was a curtained off cube, then they wheeled me around to place radioactive seeds, have mammograms, etc. Thursday I got to sit in my own room.
A med student came in to ask if it was okay if she observed my procedure right as the nurse was trying to put an iv in my wrist. First, yes- I am an educator and almost everyone in Des Moines has seen all of me so yes, observe. Second, OUCH! I have had A LOT of needle pokes in 9 months and that was the worst...Jason said I was pretty obvious when I asked the nurse how long she'd been doing this (32 years). The med student was excited to see her first laparoscopic procedure! I wish I could have signed something for her and chatted with her more when not being stabbed.
I gave a urine sample, got an iv (mid-arm), and blood draw (my left arm wasn't producing but my right arm that's not supposed to be poked was "gushing.") The anesthesiologist, Dr. Massey and Angela, (our friend from scouts, who was in my May surgery was the CRNA on this surgery as well-SO LUCKY) all stopped in, and then we were off. Some fabulous medication made me forget everything that happened after that, which I am thankful for!
So.....I need Jason to fill in some day-of gaps, stay tuned....
